What a Shopify store costs to run in Australia
A Shopify store has running costs on top of the build. These are the figures as we checked them on 8 October 2026.
Shopify’s own fees (October 2026)
Shopify charges a monthly plan fee, plus a card fee on each sale. The rates below come from Shopify’s Australian pricing page.

Shopify sets these prices and can change them, so check that page before you budget.
On the Basic plan, a $100 order paid with a standard Australian card through Shopify Payments costs $1.70 + $0.30 = $2.00 in card fees. If the store uses another payment provider instead, Shopify can charge an extra 2% on Basic, which is $2.00 on that same order. International cards and American Express cost more than the standard rate.
Themes
The Shopify Theme Store has free and paid themes (checked 8 October 2026). Dawn is free. Horizon is a set of 10 free themes built on theme blocks. Paid themes are a one-off purchase in US dollars, roughly US$100 to US$500.
CatalystHub’s Custom Shopify Theme starts at $700 inc. GST, one-off. That covers a fully custom theme, up to 10 custom-designed pages, custom integrations (apps, tracking pixels, subscription tools) and unlimited revisions. Copywriting is not included. On request, you can split the payment 50/50 between start and launch.
Most of the Perth Shopify agency pages we checked on 8 October 2026 did not publish a price.
After launch

Online spending, checkout and speed
Western Australia spent $9.1 billion online in 2025, up 18%, the fastest growth of any state, according to the Australia Post 2026 eCommerce Report. Across the country, Australians spent $82.6 billion online in 2025 (Australia Post).
The Baymard Institute puts average online cart abandonment at 70.22%, averaged from 50 studies (page updated 22 September 2025). The same Australia Post 2026 report, citing Shopify research, says 52% of Australians have abandoned a cart because checkout was too long or complicated.
Shopify said on 27 April 2026 that 79% of Shopify stores pass all Core Web Vitals, Google’s page speed and stability checks, based on Chrome user experience data.
